Spring Events 2012

Greetings Fellow Gardeners,

I hope you’re enjoying this beautiful spring!

I’m writing to let you know about some exciting events coming up. Happening next week is Maine School Garden Day, a wonderful day-long workshop for teachers hosted by Maine Ag in the Classroom, in partnership with Cooperative Extension and the MSGN. It takes place at Buckfield Jr./Sr. High School. Get a tour of their huge school garden, take workshops, sit in on a panel discussion of experienced school gardeners and network with other gardening educators. This conference is Saturday, April 28; register now!

The second event is Saturday, May 12, when the Maine Farm to School Network hosts a conference focused on bringing local, healthy food to school cafeterias. Featuring workshop themes on School Gardens, Food and Farm Curricula, Local Purchasing for Food Service, Community Supports, Food Policy, as well as a panel discussion, it will be a day guaranteed to get everyone fired up about improving school meals. Don’t miss it! Sign up here.

Finally, the Maine School Garden Network is hosting our second annual School Garden Open House on Saturday, September 29, which falls at the end of Maine Harvest Lunch Week. Start planning now to have your school garden open to the public with a morning or whole day of events. This is a great opportunity to show off your garden program to your local community, and showcase the work being done by your students. We will have more suggestions for your event on our website later in April.

Hope you’re getting those gardens cleaned up and peas planted!
