Read “ME” Agriculture 2016, March 21-25

Read “ME” Agriculture has been a very successful program since 2008, reaching over 74,000 Maine students. We are pleased to announce its return during Ag Week 2016. Volunteers will read and donate books about agriculture to Pre-Kindergarten through 4th Grade Classrooms across the state. They will tell the students about their farms, programs or connections to agriculture and leave lessons and information for the teachers to use, all supplied by MAITC. Funding for this project is a direct result of the Maine agricultural specialty license plate, grants from Maine Department of Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry, and collaboration this year with The Maine Potato Board to develop the book “Potatoes for ME”.

Volunteers will read this new book on Maine potatoes to classrooms across the state. The book is currently in development with real Maine pictures of real Maine farms. An extra bonus will be the Activity Guide developed especially for elementary educators with reproducible activities, games and puzzles for grades K to 4. Volunteer readers are also encouraged to bring additional information on their own farm, program or commodity to share with the students.
