Description

Dexter, Maine. Professional development retreat sponsored by Northeast SARE for Maine agricultural educators and service providers. “Reading the Farm” brings together agricultural service providers to explore whole-farm and teamwork approaches to farm sustainability. Participants will be provided with detailed background on the environment, community, and enterprises of two farms. Half-day tours of each farm to develop an understanding of the complete farm operation (including goals, production practices, marketing strategies, community relations, etc.). Teams will summarize observations and brainstorm options for the farm, which are shared with the farm family. To learn more about “Reading the Farm”, see pg. 22 of the SARE Spring 2007 newsletter at http://nesare.org/resources/publications/2007-spring.pdf. Open to academic, agency, and non-profit personnel who work in agriculture. Lodging and food provided.
